Why he might be annoying
He dropped out of the University of Utah, the University of Texas and George Mason University.
He looks like Dick Cheney.
He is considered to be the brains behind the Bush administration.
He was a strong supporter of the proposal to grant amnesty to illegal Mexican migrants.
George W. Bush refers to him as either 'Boy genius' or 'Turd blossom.'
He has been accused of spreading lies and using dirty tricks against political opponents.
He was accused of leading a phone campaign during the South Carolina primaries that said John McCain was mentally unstable and fathered a black child out of wedlock (neither allegations are true).
He was the subject of a biography that portrays him as being unethical, vindictive, and an abuser of power.
A friend said: 'The problem with Karl is that his enemies list never ends. Once you're on it, it does not end.'
Why he might not be annoying
He has worked on numerous winning campaigns and is one of the most in-demand political consultants.
When asked if he manipulates the public image of his candidates, he said: 'That assumes you can fool everybody, that the masses are asses. People are pretty damn smart. What you've got to do is present your case in the best light possible, with credibility and integrity.'
He found out that the man who raised him was not his real father. He did not meet his real father until he was in his forties.
He is described as being intelligent, well read, organized, determined, and highly competitive.
