The Resume

    (May 10, 1937- )
Born in New York City, New York
Author involved in the ‘human potential movement’
With husband Robert Masters, founded the Foundation for Mind Research (1965)
Wrote ‘Mind Games’ (with Masters, 1972), ‘Life Force’ (1993), ‘A Mythic Life’ (1996), ‘The Possible Human’ (1997),‘Mystical Dogs’ (2002) and ‘The Wizard of Us’ (2012)
Advisor to First Lady Hilary Rodham Clinton during the writing of ‘It Takes a Village’ (1995-96)

Why she might be annoying:

She calls herself ‘a sacred psychologist,’ whatever that means.
She met her husband through a government research project on the effects of LSD.
She and her husband conducted experiments where they gave people LSD or psilocybin, then tested them for ESP.
She told Dateline NBC that she had earned several doctorate degrees; she later admitted she had only one doctorate and blamed her false statement on overwork.
She buttered up Hilary by comparing her to Joan of Arc.
She encouraged Hilary to hold conversations with the late Eleanor Roosevelt and Mahatma Gandhi.

Why she might not be annoying:

Buckminister Fuller said, ‘Jean Houston’s mind should be considered a national treasure.’
Through a mutual interest in anthropology, she became friends with Margaret Mead, who lived with her and Masters for several years in the late 70s.
’It Takes a Village’ became a best seller, so whatever advice she gave couldn’t have been too bad.
When the press compared Hilary’s conversations with Eleanor Roosevelt to Nancy Reagan consulting an astrologer, Houston noted that the talks were simply a ‘role-playing exercise’ to jog Clinton’s imagination: ‘There was no séance. There were no spooks.’
