    He blended his staunch anti-Communism with his religious message during sermons.
    His speeches encouraged citizens to protest.
    When news of his killing leaked out, there was concern his congregation would get violent.
    He was famed for his charisma.
    The Polish government arrested him on trumped up charges in 1983.
    Just a week prior to his kidnapping, he escaped an attempt to run him off a country road.
    The Catholic Church recognized him as a martyr, with his beatification occurring June 6, 2010.
    He was awarded the Order of the White Eagle posthumously in 2009.
