The Resume

    (June 15, 1931-August 21, 2011)
    Born in Wheeling, West Virginia
    Artist, sculptor and author
Proponent of the alien abduction theory
Wrote 'Missing Time' (1981), 'Intruders' (1987), 'Witnessed' (1996) and 'Art, Life and UFOs' (2009)
Founded the Intruders Foundation (1989) to investigate UFO abductions

Why he might be annoying:

His alien abduction claims were based on memories 'recovered' under hypnosis, a notoriously unreliable technique.
He criticized fellow alien abduction researcher John Mack for not including the full transcripts of hypnosis sessions in his books, even though Hopkins' own books also lack those transcripts.
He said his best case for alien abduction is Linda Napolitano, whose abduction from a New York high rise was allegedly witnessed by UN Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar, two of Cuellar's bodyguards, and a woman on the Brooklyn Bridge.
The case just has the minor problems of: (1) Cuellar has never admitted to seeing a UFO; (2) Hopkins never interviewed or met the bodyguards, whose testimony (and existence) is based entirely on Napolitano's say-so; (3) the testimony of the alleged Brooklyn Bridge witness was so messed up that Hopkins admitted to 'correcting' it.
When asked how an alien abduction could be pulled off in New York City with so few witnesses, he argued that the aliens have the power of 'selective invisibility.'
I can understand showing off an abduction to the UN Secretary General, but why did the aliens let a random mope on the Brooklyn Bridge be a witness?
He claimed that the incident was intended by the aliens to demonstrate their powers to the world's leaders; oddly, when Cuellar failed to go public, the aliens did not escalate to an act that would be tougher to ignore, such as landing their craft in front of the UN building.

Why he might not be annoying:

His art is part of the permanent collections of the Guggenheim, Whitney and Hirshhorn Museums and the Museum of Modern Art.
His comment on Mayan Calendar inspired Doomsday scenarios was 'Don't worry and don't gather on the hilltops. But if you are planning to give away your earthly possessions, give them to me.'
He did provide evidence for his selective invisibility theory: photos in which you cannot see aliens or abductees because they're invisible.
