Nicknamed 'The Pink City'

Why Yerevan, Armenia might be annoying:

It was pillaged by Tamerlane (1387).
It was constantly fought over by the Ottomans and Safavids until the latter firmly maintained its foothold in the city.
The Safavid emperor Shah Abbas I deported its inhabitants to Persia (1604).
The Soviet redesign of the city under Alexander Tamanian destroyed many historical buildings.
It suffered from gas and electricity shortages during the first five years of Armenian independence (1991-96).
Political demonstrations are commonplace, including one in 2008 led by ex-president and presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

Why Yerevan, Armenia might not be annoying:

It is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities.
It has long served as a crossroad for caravans traveling between Europe and India.
It hosted many survivors of the Armenian Genocide.
UNESCO named it World Book Capital for 2012.
Its youth are known for their flamboyant spirit.
Mt. Ararat can be viewed from the city despite the former's location in Turkey.
