    In his first event, the 400-meter individual medley, Clary missed out on a spot on the 400-meter individual medley by finishing third behind Phelps and Lochte.
    He's another one of those people known by a middle name.
    In 2009, he broke Phelps's 400-yard individual medley American record.
    The following day, he broke Lochte's NCAA record in the 200-yard backstroke.
    For his performance in the 2009 World Aquatics Championships, he was awarded the breakout performer of the year award at the 2009 Golden Goggles Awards.
    He admitted that he used the pseudonym Scott Flowers to honor his stepfather.
    He bested Lochte en route to his gold medal winning performance in the 200 meter backstroke at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
