Why he might be annoying:

During the Civil War he fought against members of his own family.
He was regarded as a man who drove himself too hard.
He had a short temper when it came to other's mistakes.
He was often dusty and unkempt while in uniform.

Why he might not be annoying:

Upon receiving an offer of a commission in the Confederate Army, he was said to have hurled it on the ground declaring he would 'Live and die under the flag of the Union.'
At the Battle of Second Bull Run he led a charge in which he was wounded and left for dead on the battle field.
He secured Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg (and perhaps the War) by arriving first to the battle and holding off Confederate forces until the Union had safely taken the high ground.
He suffered from and died of Typhoid fever.
