Outlaw

The Resume

    (1886-1969)
    Born in Martinique
Died in New York City, New York
    Dubbed 'Harlem's Policy Queen'

Why she might be annoying:

She was arrogant, with a fiery temper, which she displayed by cursing in various languages when provoked.
She associated with the ferocious '40 Thieves' gang, the first organized crime syndicate.
In a case of twisted ambition, she took $10,000 of her own money to set up a 'numbers bank' in Harlem.
She slept with her chief enforcer, the much younger Ellsworth 'Bumpy' Johnson.

Why she might not be annoying:

Within one year of setting up her business, she pulled in over $500,000, with 40 people working under her command.
She was revered for her elegant fashion sense.
As a black woman, she had no political power, with her complaints that police were shaking her down for money going unheard.
She put ads in Harlem newspapers detailing her grievances, leading to her arrest on trumped up charges.
Her testimony outlining kickbacks she paid cops led to the firing of numerous policemen.
As her nemesis Dutch Schultz lay dying, she sent a message stating, 'Ye reap what ye sow.'
