Celebrity's Relative
    (February 28, 1926-November 22, 2011)
    Born in Moscow, Russian Federation
    Daughter of Joseph Stalin
Defected to the United States (1967)
    Also known as Lana Peters
Frank Lloyd Wright's widow, Olgivanna, became convinced that she was a 'spiritual replacement' for her late daughter, coincidentally also named Svetlana.
Olgivanna then convinced her to marry her daughter's widower, Wes Peters.
She slapped Peters and their daughter, Olga.
She told interviewers that the US and USSR were equal threats to world peace.
She said of Russia, 'I shall never return to that prison.'
She flew to Moscow, reclaimed her Soviet citizenship (1984) and declared that she had never had a happy day in America.
After 18 months, she redefected back to the US.
In his memoirs, Nikita Khruschev described Stalin, in a drunk rage at a party, dragging Svetlana by her hair onto the dance floor.
Stalin broke up her romance with filmmaker Alexi Kaplan by having Kaplan arrested as a spy and sent to Siberia.
After her defection, she denounced her father as 'a moral and spiritual monster' and the Soviet system as 'profoundly corrupt.'
The year before her return to Russia, she noted 'I have a grandson and a granddaughter whom I have never seen.... Sometimes I don't care what the regime is. I just want to see my grandchildren.'
If you grew up with Stalin as your father, you probably wouldn't be a model of stability either.
