Why they might be annoying:

No explanation was ever given as to how the name originated — though there was speculation they were inspired by the James Brown single ‘Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.’
Having sensed he’d created an unmanageable lot of clashing egos, Hamlin left roughly a year into their formation.
Not without warrant, either; they went on a long grueling college tour (1982), leaving them on the verge of burnout.

Why they might not be annoying:

Not until the addition of Angela Jaeger (the future Mrs. Underwood) was there a regular vocalist.
The Paul Oakenfold remix of ‘Papa’s Got a Brand New Pigbag’ (subtitled ‘Reach Up’) became an English Football League staple.
While never being a huge commercial success together, they remained active on the music scene as members of other groups.
