Scapegoat
The Resume
(1977- )
Raised in Chicago
Chicago Cub fan
Blamed for the Cub's lose of the N.L. Pennant
Why he might be annoying
Most Chicago Cub fans blame him for the failure of the Chicago Cubs to win the 2003 N.L Pennant.
With the Chicago Cubs needing one victory to win the NL Pennant and leading 3-0 with one out in the eighth inning, Marlin's Luis Castillo hit a foul fly to left field.
The ball headed into the stands and unaware that Moises Alou was reaching for the ball, he attempted to catch it.
As a direct result many claim he prevented Moises from catching the ball.
Castillo eventually got a hit and the Marlins rallied to score 8 runs in that inning.
The Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich said if he ever gets in trouble he would never give him a pardon.
Chicago Cub manager Dusty Baker blamed him for the Chicago Cubs lose.
He looks much older than he is.
His new nicknames are 'The fan' and 'The new goat.'
His super hero name would be Bartman.
He was listening to the radio sportscast while attending the game.
He received death threats and had beer and other things thrown at him.
The infamous ball he deflected was auctioned to Cub fans for $113,824 (December 2003). They blew the ball up (February 26, 2004).
Why he might not be annoying
There was no guarantee that Alou would have caught the ball.
He did nothing wrong, since the ball was hit into an area that legally allows the fans to catch it.
There were plenty of people reaching for the ball and anyone in his seat would have done the same.
Worse case scenario, he just gave Castillo another chance to bat, the Chicago Cubs should have sucked it up and won.
Jim Rome said it was the Chicago Cubs poor playing and people should 'leave the dork with headphones alone.'
Cub fans do not blame Alex Gonzalez who made an error in that inning or pitchers Prior or Farnsworth who allowed six earned runs in that innings.
Cub fans would rather blame him, than blame the Chicago Cubs who also lost the next game and the N.L. pennant after having a three run lead.
He gave the Chicago Cubs an excuse for blowing three straight games in the NLCS.
Chicago Cubs fans believe the nonsense that their really is a curse. More logically, the Chicago Cubs have a defeatist attitude that can't be blamed on him.
He is loved by Florida Marlin fans.
Florida governor Jeb Bush offered him political asylum and a steak dinner.
Michael Wilbon from 'Pardon The Interruption' feels that Bernie Mac jinxed the team by singing 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' during the seventh inning stretch.
The assholes at the Chicago Sun-Times not only identified him, but published his home address and where he works.
He is a fan of the Chicago Cubs and he apologized by saying: 'I am truly sorry from the bottom of this Chicago Cubs fan's broken heart.'
He begged Chicago Cubs fans for forgiveness.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Moises Alou and more rational fans said the loss wasn't his fault.
He is a little league coach.
