Why he might be annoying:

He was dropped by Capitol in 1965, due to the British Invasion overtaking surf music.
As a boy, he played so aggressively he kept breaking the heaviest strings on the market, as well as grounding his picks to nothing, several within the same song.
He had rectal cancer (1966).

Why he might not be annoying:

He's the father of surf music.
His nickname is 'King of the Surf Guitar.'
Only the likes of Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix have ever matched his skill.
He pioneered many studio effects in the '60s.
He played his guitar backwards (without restringing it either!).
He was influenced by everything from big band to country to folk.
In 1979, he got a pollution related infection that nearly cost him his leg, leading him to become an environmental activist.
'Miserlou' was the theme to 'Pulp Fiction.'
He made a successful comeback in the '90s.
