The Resume

    (November 30, 1964- )
    Born in Mexico City, Mexico
Birth name is Emmanuel Lubezki Morgenstern
Mexican cinematographer known for his work on 'Como Agua para Chocolate' (1992), 'A Little Princess' (1995), 'The Birdcage' (1996), 'Meet Joe Black' (1998), 'Great Expectations' (1998), 'Sleepy Hollow' (1999), 'Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events' (2004), 'The New World' (2005), 'Children of Men' (2006), 'The Tree of Life' (2011), 'Gravity' (2013), and 'Birdman' (2014)

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname is 'El Chivo,' the Spanish word for 'goat.'
Jessica Chastain initially confused people when she called out 'Chivo' instead of 'Emmanuel' at the 2015 Oscars.
Not even he could lend The Cat in the Hat with Mike Myers an ounce of class.
While filming 'The Revanant' in Calagry, he released an Instagram photo of an old man with icicles on his mustache to illustrate the low temperatures (Dec. 2014).
He was initially reluctant to read the script for 'Birdman' when it was pitched to him by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, because the idea of a movie filmed in one long-shot 'sounded just awful.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on 'Tree of Life' (2011).
He won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on 'Gravity' (2014).
He won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work in 'Birdman' (2015).
He ranked #24 on EW's The 50 Smartest People in Hollywood (2007).
He successfully pulled off the cinematic 'magic trick' of filming 'Birdman' in a single long-shot.
He is a frequent collaborator with Alfonso Cuaron (they went to film school together).
Together they succeeded in turning what was conceived as a conventional 'kiddie flick' into a serious high-class piece of cinematic art. His work on 'A Little Princess' earned him his first Oscar nomination (1996).
He was the main technician responsible for the seamless mending of the live actors with their digital environment, through the strategic use of lighting, in 'Gravity.'
He is only the second Cinematographer to win back-to-back consecutive Oscars (the other being John Toll, for 'Legends of the Fall' and 'Braveheart').
