Why he might be annoying:

    He wrote an autobiography.
He allowed his hair transplant to be televised.
He was projected to be the next Jimmy Clark, but never reached his level.
He enjoyed more success in lower-level motor racing than in F1.
He joked about being 'the fastest cripple in the world' for racing after extensive foot and ankle surgery.
He donned a short-skirted gold lame dress for the opening of the 1994 Adelaide street circuit.
His contract with Lotus was sold off shortly after he signed with the team, which was in dire financial circumstances (he would sort of 'wander' between teams without making much of an impression until his retirement in 2000).

Why he might not be annoying:

He maintains a good sense of humor.
He has been an enthusiastic supporter of Lewis Hamilton's racing career.
He began his career by racing karts when he was just 10 years old.
He was the British Junior Karting Champion for 1978.
He survived one of the worst accidents in F3 History, at the 1988 International, smashing both his feet and ankles in a multi-car collision.
Barely escaping amputation, doctors told him he would never walk again, seemingly dooming his once-promising F1 chances.
Proving them wrong, he would go on to debut with F1 less than six months later in Brazil, going on to spend more than a decade in the sport.
His decision, at the July round, to stop his car and aid a fellow competitor who had suffered a puncture at high speed, earned him the Sportsman Award at the 1991 Autosport Awards.
He made the best out of a bad situation, translating his disappointing racing career into a lucrative sports-casting job with Sky News, where his jokester persona remains popular with viewers.
