Family emigrated to New Zealand when he was nine
    World Heavyweight Champion (1897-99)
Heavyweight pro record: 51 wins (44 by knockout), 8 losses, 5 draws

He was wed four times, with his third marriage lasting only a few months.
He continued boxing well after his prime, until New York state refused to license his bouts.
After leaving the ring, he hit the vaudeville circuit and toured as an evangelist.
He developed incredible upper body strength working as a blacksmith.
He was the first boxer to hold titles in three weight divisions, winning championships as a middleweight (1891), heavyweight (1897) and light heavyweight (1903).
At 160 pounds, he was the lightest heavyweight champ.
Nat Flesicher of 'The Ring' magazine called him, pound for pound, the best knockout puncher ever.
