    Also appeared in the films ‘Libido’ (1965), ‘Anzio’ (1968), ‘Black Belly of the Tarantula’ (1971), ‘How Funny Can Sex Be?’ (1973), ‘Lili Marleen’ (1981), ‘Saving Grace’ (1986), ‘A Walk in the Clouds’ (1995), ‘Hannibal’ (2001), and ‘Magical Nights’ (2018)
    AllMovie commented ‘His appearance in other directors’ films are seldom as memorable as his pairings with Wertmuller.’
    He turned down the role of Belloq in ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark.’
    His son Adriano took over his role in the critically derided Guy Ritchie-Madonna remake of ‘Swept Away.’ (2002)
    He is fluent in Italian, English, French, and Spanish
    He won the award for best actor at the Cannes Film Festival for ‘Love and Anarchy.’
    After he dubbed Jack Nicholson’s voice for the Italian release of ‘The Shining,’ he received a complimentary telegram from Stanley Kubrick.
    His oldest son Lorenzo died of an aneurysm shortly before his 20th birthday (1987).
