Why he might be annoying:

Even though he was a pioneer in rock, he was not nearly as recognized as other great guitarists, such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton or even Dick Dale (a forgotten rock god, if you will).
He scared record companies and they forced him to record songs that definitely weren't rock & roll.
'Rumble' was meant to capture the feel of a gang fight; it got banned by many radio stations.
He didn't received money for some of his old music, thanks to his jealous brother and manager, who destroyed some of the master tapes and stole the rights to most of his music.

Why he might not be annoying:

Pete Townsend said: 'He is the King; if it hadn't been for Rumble, I would have never picked up a guitar.'
'If I could go back in time and see any band, it would be Link Wray and the Raymen' said Neil Young.
He made up 'Rumble' on the spot when asked to play a stroll.
Thanks to the mighty hit 'Rumble,' rock music has the power chord. As such, hundreds of hard rock bands such as AC/DC, Metallica, Pantera, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Tenacious D owe their careers to Wray.
His work in the studio was also responsible for heavy metal.
Tuberculosis forced him to stop singing, particularly after his left lung was removed, so he concentrated on his guitar.
He often played with his brothers, Vernon and Doug, in other bands.
It was said of him that he 'rocks harder than any 60 year old has the right to.'
He still sings on occasion and his voice is well-received by many critics.
