    Acted in plays ‘She Stoops to Conquer,’ ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ ‘As You Like It,’ ‘The Walls of Jericho,’ ‘The Degenerates’ and ‘Lady of Lyons’

    She was an unruly child.
    She married her first husband in part to get away from the Channel Islands.
    She was a famous mistress before she became a famous actress.
    She gave birth to Prince Louis of Battenberg’s child while still married to her first husband.
    She endorsed soap and makeup at the height of her fame.
    The night after her American debut, the theatre burned down.
    She virtually abandoned her daughter and didn’t mention her in her autobiography.
    In her final years she could only find work in vaudeville.
    Her second husband didn’t attend her funeral, and she left him nothing in her will.

    Roy Bean, famed Justice of the Peace, named the town of Langtry, Texas after her.
    She was the first woman to 'break the bank' at Monte Carlo (1907).
    She starred in 'His Neighbor's Wife' (1913), directed by Edwin S. Porter.
    Pete Townshend wrote ‘Pictures of Lily’ about her.
