Why they might be annoying:

It claims to be named after ‘Cadillac Jack’ Garrett, a person who does not exist.
It doesn’t have DJs, traffic or weather reports, or morning shows.
It swallows up stations without warning, and puts long-time radio personalities out of a job.
It then replaces them with a sarcastic, generic, pre-recorded voice.
When it took over a New York City oldies station, Mayor Michael Bloomberg reportedly said: ‘I’ll never listen to that fucking [station] ever again.’
Steve Van Zandt said it was like replacing the Statue of Liberty with a blow-up doll.
Despite its independent, ‘hipster’ image, it’s actually heavily market-tested to appeal to aging Gen X'ers.
‘Newsday’ called it ‘another step toward the McDonaldization of radio.’
It spawned copycats calling themselves ‘Bob FM’ and ‘Dave FM.’
When people call the station to complain, the voice of ‘Jack’ mocks them on the air.

Why they might not be annoying:

Some people say DJs, traffic and weather reports, and morning shows were the worst things about commercial radio anyway.
Its catalog contains up to ten times the songs played on regular commercial stations.
It plays a greater variety of music than most other formats.
Despite its ‘generic’ format, its stations are individually managed, and tailored for specific markets.
The ‘Jack’ station in Springfield, Illinois, calls itself ‘Abe FM’ (for Lincoln), and in Philadelphia it’s ‘Ben FM’ (for Franklin).
‘Time’ magazine called it ‘possibly the catchiest, most democratic radio format yet invented.’
