Why she might be annoying:

At three she played a character called 'Dixie's Dainty Dewdrop' on a popular radio show.
She was offered a contract at age eight by a director impressed by her machine gun imitation.
Shirley Temple was scared of her when they worked together on 'Bright Eyes.'
Her popularity fizzled when she reached puberty.
She may be best known today as 'Josephine the Plumber' from a series of Comet ads.
She retired from acting after marrying an oil tycoon (1947), but came back 9 years later.

Why she might not be annoying:

As a child she could brilliantly mimic stars such as Charlie Chaplin and W.C. Fields.
She became a major child star despite not being conventionally pretty.
While a teenager, she wrote the screenplay for her film 'Small Time Deb.'
She made a comeback as a character actress in the 1950's.
Her husband died in a plane crash and her 33 year old son died of cancer.
Her son Randy died of cancer at age 33 (1984).
She was friends with James Dean and owns his favorite shirt; he gave it to her to wash the day he died.
Because Fox needed to distinguish her from Shirley Temple, her films were less cloyingly sweet.
At 14, she wrote the story for her film 'Small Town Deb.'
