Why he might be annoying:

    His wife Cheryl claimed that during an argument at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, he slammed her against the door, punched and kicked her, and ripped the phone out of the wall when she tried to call for help.
    He decided to come out of the closet without telling his wife first (1995).
    Fifteen years later, he went back in the closet, claiming he was ‘no longer gay’ after dating ‘a nice blonde girl.’
    He appeared drunk at the National Television Awards and gave a rambling, incoherent speech (November, 1995).
    Stuart Lubbock, a 31-year-old butcher, was found dead in his swimming pool following a party at his house (March 31, 2002).
    Police later received an anonymous tip that while other partygoers attempted to perform CPR on Lubbock, Barrymore rummaged through a chest of drawers, removed something, and left the house.
    Another tip indicated that he paid off two witnesses to not give evidence to the police.
    He went bankrupt due to unpaid taxes (2004).
    He attempted suicide by overdosing on pills as ‘a cry for help.’ (2010)
    He was convicted of cocaine possession and fined £780 (2011).

Why he might not be annoying:

    When he was 11, his father abandoned the family and they never saw each other again.
    He had to pay off his mother to keep her from going to the tabloids with details about his gay affairs.
    Cheryl said their marriage was a good one until shortly before the end: ‘I had nearly 20 blissfully happy years.’
    He headlined the Royal Variety Performance, singing ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.’ (1993).
    He won the National Television Award for Most Popular Entertainment Presenter five times (1995-98,2000).
