    Founded by settlers from Massachusetts
    Capital of Vermont
    Population is 8,035 (2000 census)
    As of 2000, it is the smallest populated state capital.
    It has one eighteenth the population of Vermont's largest city (Burlington).
    When it became the state capital it's population was 113 (1805).
    A flood destroyed most of its bridges and sank its Main Street under twelve feet of water (1927).
    Until recently, everyone in Vermont had to drive to Montpelier to update their driver's license.
    It is the location of New England's oldest vegetarian restaurant ('Horn of the Moon Cafe').
    It is home to the screaming maniac Howard Dean.
    It is small and there are no traffic jams.
    It is the only state capital without a McDonalds.
    It is the biggest maple syrup producer in the United States.
    Like true patriots, they have not given up on their clothespin manufacturer, the last remaining in the United States.
    President James Monroe loved it so much that he rarely left.
