Best known for 'El Paso,' 'Streets of Laredo,' 'A Man and A Train,' 'Big Iron,' his version of 'Ribbon of Darkness,' 'Singing the Blues,' 'Devil Woman' and 'It's a Sin'

Why he might be annoying:

He gained critical success with many of Gordon Lightfoot's songs, for which Robbins never really gave credit.
He appeared in some movies but almost always played himself, since he did not enjoy playing 'characters.'
He performed on 'Hee-Haw.'

As a child, his family lived in severe poverty.
He served three years in the Navy.
During the early years of WW II, Marty drove a landing craft that was responsible for carrying soldiers to the beaches during a battle over the Solomon Islands.
He died of lung and kidney failure.
He was married from 1948 until his death in 1982.
He once said: 'I would like to be remembered as a good entertainer, a good person. I think, maybe better as a good person.'
He is best known for his country/western songs, but he was influenced by other types of music and recorded many non-country songs.
