Choreographer

The Resume

    (October 27, 1946- )
    Born in Copenhagen, Denmark
Principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet (1965-69) and New York City Ballet (1970-83)
Ballet Master-in-Chief of the New York City Ballet (1983- )
Choreographed over 80 ballets, mostly for the New York City Ballet

Why he might be annoying:

As a student at the Royal Danish Ballet School, he cut classes, got into fistfights, stuffed classmates into their lockers, and shot up a studio with a pellet gun.
During his early years with the New York City Ballet, his dancing was so stiff and formal one of the ballerinas said he was 'like a tin soldier.'
He was arrested for beating his wife, ballerina Darci Kistler; the charges were dropped three days later when she refused to testify against him (July, 1992).
He released a workout DVD (1998).
He pled guilty to driving under the influence after being arrested on New Year's Day (2011).
The New York Observer said of the works he choreographed, 'Far too many seemed to be by the numbers and the numbers weren't distinctive.'

Why he might not be annoying:

When he was two, his father walked out on the family.
During his dancing days, he was often said to look 'like a Greek god.'
He was personally chosen by founder George Balanchine to succeed him as head of the New York City Ballet.
Dancers said that he was not despotic like Balanchine.
He kept the New York City Ballet solidly in the black at a time when other leading companies, like the American Ballet Theater and the Joffrey Ballet, were in financial trouble.
