    Died of an explosion in Ekazhevo, Ingushetia, Russia
    He masterminded many guerrilla and terrorist attacks on Russian troops and civilians.
    He even trained female suicide bombers, such as the ‘Black Widows’ Brigade.
    He had connections with Osama Bin Laden, which he denied.
    He said, ‘Russia is the last empire: it is built on blood.’ (1999)
    His book, Book of a Mujahideen, is actually a book about guerrilla tactics in the guise of a spiritual guidebook.
    He became at odds with his former business partner Supyan Taramov when they got involved in the Chechen conflict, but on opposite sides.
    He was described as an unproductive worker who played video games throughout entire nights, slept during daylight hours, and harbored an obsession with Che Guevara.
    He was Russia’s most wanted man.
    He was named after Imam Shamil, a military figure who led the Muslim groups living in the Caucasus to resist the Tzar’s armies during the 19th Century.
    He was essentially a product of the Chechens’ oppression by the Russians.
    His family, along with most Chechens, was deported to Kazakhstan during World War II.
    He wanted to get attention from the outside world for the Chechens’ plight under Russian occupation.
    He made no secret of the crimes he committed.
    He liked playing soccer.
    He and three other rebels were killed by an explosion in his car filled with explosives, which supposedly was blown up by a detonator planted by FSB (Federal Secret Service) agents.
