Why she might be annoying
Marrying into one of America's wealthiest families relieved any financial pressure to turn pro, which helped her continue to rack up Grand Slam titles in a period when only amateurs were allowed to enter.
She never played in the Australian Open because her husband would not let her. ('He threatened to divorce me if I went to Australia.')
After divorcing duPont, she formed a long-term partnership with fellow tennis player Margaret Varner Bloss.
Why she might not be annoying
During their marriage, William duPont dated fellow tennis star Alice Marble.
She was one of the few women to win a tennis major after having a child.
Over five decades after her peak, she still holds several US Open records, including most overall titles, most women's doubles titles and most mixed doubles titles.
