    Although he was the House leader of the Clinton Impeachment, he had an affair back in the 1960s.
    He claimed that it was a youthful indiscretion, yet he was in his forties when he had the affair.
    He supported a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning.
    He was uncompromising in his anti-abortion stance.
    He succeeded in cutting off federal funding for one of his pet peeves, abortion.
    He voted for extending the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (1975, 1981), strengthening fair housing laws (1988), and strengthening the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (1991).
    He was against affirmative action.
    He was for immigration reform.
    He supports free trade.
    He was one of the most powerful members of the House of Representatives.
