Baseball Player

The Resume

    (August 24, 1960- )
Played the most consecutive games of any professional baseball player (2632, 1981-September 20, 1998)
Played all his games for the Baltimore Orioles (1981-2001)
    AL MVP (1983)
    All Star MVP (1992)
    Husband of Kelly Ripken
    Nicknamed 'Iron Man'

Why he might be annoying:

Fans complained that the consecutive game streak was more important than being a team player.
During long slumps, he would continue to play rather than let someone else temporarily replace him.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was scheduled to break Lou Gehrig's consecutive game record (2130) against the NY Yankees, but due to a baseball strike, he did it on September 6, 1995 against a different team.
As a tribute to Lou Gehrig, he finished his streak against the NY Yankees (1998).
He assisted in starting a ALS fund at Johns Hopkins Hospital with $2,000,000 (the disease Gehrig died of).
