The Resume

Jason Friedberg (October 13, 1971- ), born in Newark, New Jersey
Aaron Seltzer (January 12, 1974- ), born in Mississagua, Ontario
Wrote screenplays for ‘Spy Hard’ (1996) and ‘Scary Movie’ (2000)
Wrote and directed ‘Date Movie’ (2006), ‘Epic Movie’ (2007), ‘Meet the Spartans’ (2008), ‘Disaster Movie’ (2008), ‘Vampires Suck’ (2010), ‘The Starving Games’ (2013), ‘Best Night Ever’ (2014) and ‘Superfast!’ (2015)

Why they might be annoying:

They got their big break through nepotism, as Jason’s father, Rick, directed Leslie Nielsen in ‘Bad Golf Made Easier’ and showed the actor the ‘Spy Hard’ script then convinced him to star in it.
The only film they have been associated with to break 10% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes (through mid-2017), ‘Scary Movie,’ was heavily rewritten by Shawn and Marlon Wayans and two additional screenwriters.
Their films don’t feature jokes so much as random pop culture references.
Their films appeared more often than any other filmmakers’ in the fan-voted ’50 Worst Movies Ever’ list in ‘Empire’ magazine.
Critic Nathan Rabin on the difference between them and other film parodists: ‘The Zucker brothers and Mel Brooks love, know, and appreciate the source material they're spoofing enough to get all the details perfect. The comedy of Seltzer-Friedberg, in sharp contrast, is defined by contempt: contempt for the attention span, intelligence, maturity, and frame of reference for the audience, and an even more raging contempt for the source material they're spoofing.’

Why they might not be annoying:

They decided to try a film career after taking a college class together about Martin Scorsese.
Thanks to low production budgets and releases during ‘dump months’ with less competition, they had a run of box office successes.
They have been mistakenly blamed for bad film parodies they had nothing to do with, including ‘Not Another Teen Movie,’ ‘Superhero Movie’ and ‘Dance Flick.’
They allowed the DVD commentary for ‘Date Movie’ to be provided by two critics who hated the movie and spent time pinpointing why a spoof like ‘Airplane!’ succeeded and ‘Date Movie’ failed.
