Much of her heroics went unpublicized.
She married at just 19 (1942).
Why she might not be annoying
During WW II she hid and gave refuge to many Hungarian Jews escaping Nazi persecution.
Besides hiding many in her family's textile factory, she hid many in her home.
Although German soldiers came for inspection, they never found any of the people she hid.
Her father Anthony Baer was beaten by German soldiers who suspected him of harboring people because he was carrying a large amount of food.
One of the people she hid became the chief rabbi of Vienna.
She bribed German guards to let some prisoners escape.
Her seven children said she rarely if ever spoke of her heroic actions. Her daughter, Madeline Lillie said 'We never heard. We had no idea,'
Her daughter, Katherine Cheney told reporters 'She simply didn't want to talk about the war.'
When asked why she did it, she replied 'To save people who didn't do anything wrong.'
Although in the US since 1950, they still manage to assist Hungarian's during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
She is highly decorated for her work in pediatrics.
Israel declared her 'Righteous Among Nations' (August 18, 2006).
The Pope awarded her Lady Commander of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
