It was stereotypical of teen dramas dealing with the cliché problems among adolescence.
It was cancelled after one season.
Critics called it the next 'Beverly Hills 90210,' but it never came close to 90210's popularity.
The show was dark and moody in general, which perhaps caused its sudden cancellation after a season.

Why My So Called Life might not be annoying:

The show was created by the makers of 'thirtysomething.'
It approached teenage problems in realistic and honest fashion, as opposed to other shows of that genre that focused on dramatizing it.
Then unknown show lead Claire Danes and Jared Leto went on to become stars.
MTV shows marathons of the series occasionally.
