    (January 4, 1949-January 1, 2010)
    Born in County Carlow, Ireland
Partner of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury (1985-91)
Wrote the memoir ‘Mercury and Me’ (1994)
Died of lung cancer three days before his 61st birthday
When Mercury first met him at a club and offered to buy him a drink, Hutton failed to recognize the singer and turned him down.
He also admitted, ‘Freddie was slight and not the sort of man I found attractive.’
After he tested positive for HIV in 1990, he took nearly a year before telling Mercury.
Although Hutton lived with Mercury for the last six years of his life, the singer left the bulk of his estate to his former girlfriend, Mary Austin.
Not recognizing Mercury may have made him more attractive: ‘Deep down I think that he wanted to be secure with someone who was down to earth and not impressed by who he was.’
Although they lived well before same-sex marriage became legal, he and Mercury wore wedding rings to symbolize their commitment.
When Mercury told Hutton he had been diagnosed with AIDS, he said he would understand if Hutton wanted to end their relationship. Hutton replied, ‘Don’t be stupid. I’m not going anywhere.’
He was at Mercury’s bedside when the singer died.
