    Born in Budapest, Hungary
Conductor of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (1931-1936)

His father wanted him to be a world class violist, but he disobeyed him.
No one knows why he choose Ormandy as his Americanized name.
He cried when he received the Presidential Medal in Honor award.
His birth name was 'Jenő Blau.'
He was a child prodigy and graduated with a master's degree at 14.
Taking off from what Leopold Stokowski started, he made the Philadelphia Orchestra one of the great Orchestras in the world.
Despite being Hungarian born, he would later become as Philadelphian as the Liberty Bell or the cheesesteak.
Since his 44 year reign over the Philadelphia Orchestra ended, the group has never been as acclaimed and lost their unique sound.
