Why they might be annoying:

Despite being huge in England, they never had any US hits.
Weller's father managed them and the Vapors. When the Vapors had a US hit with 'Turning Japanese,' a jealous Weller reportedly convinced his father to stop promoting the Vapors, leaving them one-hit wonders.
After the band's break-up, Foxton and Buckler did not talk to Weller for decades.
When Foxton and Buckler began touring together under the name 'From the Jam,' Weller commented, 'Me and my children would have to be destitute and starving in the gutter before I'd even consider that.'

Why they might not be annoying:

Weller's songwriting was compared to Ray Davies' and Pete Townshend's.
In a Virgin Radio poll, they were named the fifth greatest British recording artist (2002).
Weller said, 'The Jam's music still means something to people and a lot of that's because we stopped at the right time, it didn't go on and become embarassing.'
