World Leader
    (June 18, 1942- )
Deputy President of South Africa (1994-1999)
Prime Minister of South Africa (1999- )
Under his leadership crime and unemployment have increased throughout South Africa and health care has worsened.
He supports affirmative action and is against the death penalty.
He has failed to condemn the land invasions in Zimbabwe.
He has questioned the link between HIV and AIDS and the safety of anti-AIDS drugs (not a good move in a country where one in nine people are HIV-positive).
As a child he had a job reading letters from mine workers to their illiterate wives.
His family was politically active against apartheid, and he says 'I was born into the struggle.'
He spent 28 years in exile.
He graduated with a master's degree in economics from Sussex University.
He played a major role in turning the international media against the apartheid government of South Africa.
He was chosen personally by Nelson Mandela to succeed him in office.
When asked if he could fill Mandela’s shoes as president he said, 'I could never, ever be seen dead in your shoes, because you always wear ugly shoes.'
