    They recorded ‘California Dreamin,' ‘Monday Monday' and ‘Creeque Alley'
    Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1998)
    He was married four times.
    He began dating Michelle Phillips when she was just sixteen years old.
    He was addicted to cocaine, heroin, amphetamines and alcohol.
    He introduced his daughter Mackenzie Phillips to drugs.
    He was convicted of drug trafficking in 1981.
    He was given a liver transplant after years of abusing drugs and alcohol.
    He was a talented musician, writing all of the music for the Mamas and the Papas hits.
    He and Mackenzie Phillips spoke often about the perils of drug and alcohol abuse.
    He wrote the song ‘San Francisco' which became the anthem of the hippie generation.
    He helped organize the Monterey Pop Festival.
    He died of heart failure.
