    Host of ‘ABC’s World News Tonight’ and ‘This Week with David Brinkley (1981-1998)’
    Correspondent for ‘NBC Nightly News (1971-1979)’
    Co-host of NBC’s ‘(Chet) Huntley-(David) Brinkley Report (1956-1970)’
    While anchoring coverage for the 1996 Presidential election, he called Bill Clinton a ‘bore’ and editorialized that the American public was in for ‘4 more years of goddamned nonsense.’
    He was known to interject his personal opinions into his news commentary.
    The ‘Huntley-Brinkley Report’ ended each broadcast with the phrase ‘Good night, Chet. Good night, David.’
    It was widely reported that neither he nor Chet Huntley were fond of this ending.
    He left NBC News for ABC News after a bitter contract dispute.
    The title of his autobiography: ‘David Brinkley: 11 Presidents, 4 Wars, 22 Political Conventions, 1 Moon Landing, 3 Assassinations, 2,000 Weeks of News and Other Stuff on Television and 18 Years of Growing Up in North Carolina.’
    He is considered a pioneer figure for network evening news and Sunday morning political programming.
    He had a distinctive delivery style and was lauded for his clever wit.
    He apologized to President Bill Clinton for his inappropriate election night commentary.
    He was the first White House correspondent for NBC News.
    He earned 10 Emmy Awards as well as 3 Peabody Awards.
    He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George H.W. Bush (1992).
    He served in the United States Army.
    His last words ever broadcast on a network news broadcast: ‘I quote Shakespeare, who said, All's well that ends well.' My time here now ends extremely well. Thank you.’
