Why they might be annoying:

They have the same last name, even though they aren't related.
Skating commentators have repeatedly criticized their lack of artistry.
They live in the shadow of their teammates Shen Xue and Zhao HongBo.
At the 2006 Olympics, they emulated Shen and Zhao by attempting to land the first throw quadruple salchow in competition.
The quad was unsuccessful because Zhang Dan failed to complete the revolution and landed on her knee.

Why they might not be annoying:

Even though Dan's fall on the quad looked dangerous, she returned to the ice after her coach and a doctor examined her knee.
She and Hao successfully finished their program and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
They finished an impressive second place despite the fall.
Even though they lack artistry, commentators and audiences are quick to praise their athleticism.
They are the first team to perform a quadruple twist (at the 2000 World Junior Championships).
