Why he might be annoying:

He worked low-circulation newspapers for 10 years before finally being hired by the Chicago Tribune.
60 of his cartoon ideas were rejected by his publishing company.
He was one of the first cartoonists to illustrate violence and death in comics.
He often killed off popular characters.
He participated in the movie adaptation of 'Dick Tracy' but made so many demands from the studios that the project was shelved. The movie was eventually made after his death.

Why he might not be annoying:

He sold his first commercial illustrations at seven.
In response to the media's glorification of prohibition-era gangsters, he created 'Dick Tracy.' Dick Tracy gave the public a positive role-model that encouraged decency and law.
His comic-strips portrayed criminals as ugly, grotesque fiends.
He received numerous awards from police departments and law enforcement agencies for his accurate portrayal of police procedure.
