TV Series
    (July 7, 1975-January 13, 1989)
Created by Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer
    Broadcast on ABC
    Notable cast members included:
    Helen Gallagher
    Bernard Barrow
    Michael Levin
    Gale Sondergaard
The story of an Irish-American clan living in New York City
Labine and Mayer had to force a cliffhanger on their CBS soap 'Love of Life' in order to fully devote their resources and writers in development of this show.
Like many soap operas, there were many inconsistencies and a high cast changeover rate.
The creators sold the show to ABC due to rising production costs.
ABC then fired the original creators and replaced them with Mary Munisteri.
This lead to often bizarre storylines such the search for a lost Egyptian queen and even the introduction of the Kirkland clan which alienated viewers.
The arrival of the rival Kirkland clan was often referred to as 'Kirkland's Hope.'
At the end of its run, it placed last among soaps in Nielsen ratings.
Some fans say that the 'Danny Boy' singing at the end of the finale was a disastrous ending.
Much like Loving, 'Hope' is considered a black sheep or white elephant in soap operas.
