The Resume

    (February 3, 1899-November 16, 1994)
Born in Manchester, England, United Kingdom
Portrayed Annie Walker on the British soap opera 'Coronation Street' (1960-83)
Nicknamed 'the Queen Mother of Soap'
Awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire, 1977)

Why she might be annoying:

She made her stage debut at age three in her parents' act.
When a tabloid published her birth certificate revealing that she was two decades older than she claimed, she fainted on the 'Coronation Street' set.
She then suffered a breakdown and left the show (except for a guest appearance in the 30th anniversary 'Happy Birthday Coronation Street' special).

Why she might not be annoying:

She said, 'I would love to have done more theatre work because that is how I started, but I owe my life to ‘Coronation Street’ and I don’t regret a minute of it.'
She received more fan mail than any other cast member of 'Coronation Street.'
Increasingly poor health and a burglary at her home contributed to her breakdown, not just the birth certificate revelation.
