His performance in 'Walking Tall' was praised by many critics.
He defied expectations that he would be typecast as a redneck villain.
He had no problem with spoofing his early roles in two James Bond films.
He took over for Carrol O'Connor on 'In the Heat of the Night' while O'Connor recovered from bypass surgery.
