Why he might be annoying:

He said he was born with 'an old man's face,' which may be why his acting career did not take off until he was nearly 40.
He was inconsistent about using a hyphen in his last name.
He believed that his acrimonious break-up with Emily's mother when she was two contributed to his daughter's mental health problems. ('I was determined not to pass to my children what I perceived to be the faults of my upbringing. But like Larkin said, you just fuck 'em up.')
He said the success of 'Only Fools and Horses' was both a blessing (by bringing financial security) and a curse (because strangers would assume he was as slow-witted as his character).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was fluent in German, French and Italian, in addition to his native English.
He was a patron of the children's charity Scene & Heard.
He appeared at the Globe Theatre in productions of Shakespeare's 'Richard III' and 'Twelfth Night' (2012).
He said, 'I was not easy to cast, but I have never been typecast.'
