The Resume

    (November 25, 1880-August 14, 1969)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Husband of Virginia Woolf
With Virginia, founded Hogarth Press (1917)
Wrote 'The Village in the Jungle' (1913), 'International Government' (1916), 'Economic Imperialism' (1920), 'Essays on Literature, History, Politics' (1927) and 'The War for Peace' (1940)

Why he might be annoying:

He lost his virginity to a prostitute while working for the colonial office in Ceylon.
He ran unsuccessfully for Parliament (1922).
He owned a pet marmoset that was constantly defecating on him, forcing him to waterproof his jacket.
After meeting him, Rupert Brooke wrote, 'Was Woolf, who seems very nice, ever more than minor?'
He was such a compulsive record keeper that even on the day his wife disappeared (her body was found in a river three weeks later), he recorded his car's mileage in his diary.
He wrote five volumes of autobiography, which one critic suggested was 'four and a half more than strictly necessary.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first Jew elected to Cambridge University's prestigious undergraduate society, the Apostles (1902).
While announcing their engagement, Virginia called him 'a penniless Jew.'
He suggested to Virginia that they start Hogarth Press as a hobby to distract her from the pressures of writing.
Hogarth grew into one of England's most distinguished publishing houses, publishing in addition to their own books works by T.S. Eliot, E.M. Forster, Katherine Mansfield, Christopher Isherwood, Edith Sitwell and Robert Graves.
Despite the difficulties of their marriage (for one thing, their sexual relations ended with their honeymoon), he described himself as 'terminally and unconditionally in love' with Virginia.
