TV Series
It was canceled a few months after it began.
It is far more popular in the UK than in its home country of Australia, with about seven times more viewers.
BBC refused to renew the series when Fremantle demanded triple the amount per episode in a new contract (May 18, 2007).
Unlike American soap operas the series takes a three week Christmas break.
It failed miserably in the U.S. when Oxygen aired some episodes.
During its first 20 years, it rarely touched on sexual or provocative issues.
They aired their 5,000th episode in 2006.
    It introduced many future stars.
In Australia it is unusual for a canceled series to be picked up by a rival network. However, Channel 10 picked up the series after Channel 7 canceled it.
The series is owned by Fremantle (American Idol's owner).
British Channel 5 owned by RTL who also owns Fremantle took over the series immediately after the BBC negotiation fell through (May 18, 2007).
In the late '80s, at the height of its popularity, it had more UK viewers than the number of people in Australia.
