Why he might be annoying:

He needed to showcase his name in every group he's been in; Dion & the Belmonts, Dion & the Wanderers, Dion & the Little Kings and Dion & the Timberlanes.
He goes by a pretentious single name.
He was addicted to heroin in the mid-1960's.
His 1975 comeback album, 'Born To Be With You,' produced by Phil Spector, was a huge flop.
He found God via a bright white light while jogging through the park (December 14, 1979).

Why he might not be annoying:

He couldn't deal with spending $35 for a seat and turned down an offer to fly on the plane Buddy Holly rode to his death (February 3, 1959).
He's been married to the same woman since 1964.
'Runaround Sue' (a song about his future wife) hit #1 on Billboard's Singles chart for two weeks (October 1961).
'Abraham, Martin and John,' a protest song he wrote in response to the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy, was a surprise 1968 hit.
He overcame his drug and alcohol dependency.
In 1989 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, introduced by longtime fan Lou Reed.
