    Portrayed Oliver ‘Spearchucker’ Jones in M*A*S*H (1973)
    Appeared in the films ‘MASH’ (1970), ‘Sweet Sugar’ (1972), ‘Black Gunn’ (1972), ‘Dynamite Brothers’ (1974), ‘Nashville’ (1975), ‘Black Heat’ (1976), ‘Midnight Ride’ (1990), and ‘Frequency’ (2000)
    He came from a broken home, spending time in an orphanage and in foster care.
    He led the NFL in all-purpose yardage for two seasons (1962-63).
    He was the first player to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in a game (1966).
    In addition to football and acting, he sang in nightclubs, which he said was ‘the thing I do best.’
    After leaving acting, he became a parole officer in Los Angeles, working primarily with juvenile offenders.
