Premise: A New York housewife in the late 1950's discovers her knack for stand-up comedy and uses it to advanced herself in the wake of being cheated on by her estranged husband
The show's creator drew inspirations from the late comedienne Joan Rivers.
Critic John Anderson of the 'Wall Street Journal' remarked, 'There are great one-liners, endearing performances and a visually opulent representation of New York in the nascent 'Mad Men' era. But the world of the show simply doesn’t make sense.'
It sometimes recycled several Jewish stereotypes.
Midge often does her stand up routines while she is drunk.
The show benefits from nepotism, with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's husband writing many episodes.
The series was created by the same woman who produced 'Gilmore Girls.'
Like 'Gilmore Girls,' it cleverly blends comedy and drama with its witty, fast-paced dialogue.
It cleverly contains various pop culture references to the late 1950's and early 1960's.
Critics lauded it for its strong female characters.
It won various accolades including several Primetime Emmy Awards.
