The Resume

    (May 12, 1812-January 29, 1888)
Wrote ‘A Book of Nonsense (1846),’ ‘The Owl and the Pussycat (1867)’ and many nonsense poems

Why he might be annoying:

He was obsessed with his cat.
When he had a house built, he made it an exact reproduction of his old house, just so the cat wouldn’t be upset.
He called Queen Victoria ‘an absolute duck.’
He popularized the limerick, a poetic form that one critic called ‘too irritating for words.’
He made up a lot of goofy nonsense words.
Despite writing silly poetry, he was depressed and gloomy.
He wrote a poem with the questionable title ‘The Dong with a Luminous Nose.’

Why he might not be annoying:

    His mother ignored him.
He suffered from epilepsy and asthma.
    He was a talented artist.
He gave drawing lessons to Queen Victoria.
He was known as a kind person and good teacher.
    He loved to travel.
