    Editor for ‘The Dial’ (1840-1844) and ‘New York Tribune’ (1844-1850)
    Worked in military hospitals during Giuseppe Mazzini’s revolution
    Died near Fire Island, New York, United States
    Her husband, Giovanni Angelo Ossoli, was twelve years younger than her.
    She gave birth to her son from her future husband a year before they got married.
    Even though she co-founded Brook Farm, she never lived there, but was a frequent visitor.
    She and Anne Lynch Botta got involved in a scandal with Edgar Allan Poe over his relationships with Frances Sargent Osgood and Elizabeth F. Ellet.
    She inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne’s character Hester Prynne in the book ‘The Blithedale Romance’.
    Due to her intelligence, she was highly educated by her father, who desperately wanted a boy.
    She advocated for women’s rights, prison reform, and the abolition of slavery.
    She and her husband fled to Florence from Rome because they supported Giuseppe Mazzini’s failed revolution.
    She, her husband, and their son Angelo drowned to death during the voyage to New York.
